Prostate Health Urology Endowment Fund
There is an overwhelming need to educate men about their prostate health. In particular, Prostate Cancer for patients and loved ones is a complex and often confusing disease to navigate. It is one of the most decision-intensive diseases, where patients face multiple cross-roads and treatment decisions that need to be made at the different stages of each man's journey with the disease. With so many new advancements in the treatment of prostate cancer, it is even more important now to provide useful education and decision-making tools from a trusted, leading source.
"A prostate cancer diagnosis in particular, can be a life-altering event. The treatment and care a man receives through his entire journey can have an immense impact on his emotional, physical, functional and social well-being," states Dr. John H. Lynch, Urology Care Foundation Patient Education Council Chair and Professor and Chairman of the MedStar Georgetown University Medical Center's Department of Urology.
"Diseases of the prostate affect a large number of men during their lifetime. These diseases include prostate cancer, infection/inflammation, and urinary blockage. While urologists know a great deal about these problems and often can treat them effectively, the affected men (and their families) usually know very little about the prostate and often are confused if not afraid. Physician counseling helps but often that is not enough to relieve the high anxiety. Thus there is an urgent need for more and better educational tools about prostate problems."
