There are many emotions that may come with being a caregiver. It may be an easy choice to care for a loved one when something like a urologic condition is present. A person may need to take care of a loved one for a short time or it may become a longer journey. Over time, taking care of someone can take a toll on mental, emotional and physical health, which is why it is of great value to learn how to take care of yourself. Because caregiving means self-care too.
This spring issue covers topics around caregiving for patients with urologic conditions. The focus of our feature article with Dr. Stacy Tanaka is caring for an unborn child with the urologic condition, hydronephrosis. Other topics we explore include caregiver burnout, how to care for urinary retention, the switch from pediatric to adult urology care and caregiving myths.
