Arthur L. “Bud” Burnett, II, MD

BALTIMORE, June 18, 2020—The Urology Care Foundation, the official foundation of the American Urological Association (AUA), announced today Arthur L. “Bud” Burnett, II, MD has been named to the Urology Care Foundation Board of Directors.

Dr. Burnett is a Professor of Urology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, where he also serves as Director of the Basic Science Laboratory in Neuro-urology. Additionally, he holds professional appointments including Director of the Male Consultation Clinic and clinician-scientist at the James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute. Dr. Burnett is recognized as a world-authority in the science and medicine of male erectile dysfunction and has contributed several original discoveries which have paved the way for the clinical development of oral medications to treat erectile dysfunction.

His extensive history with the Urology Care Foundation dates back more than 25 years when he first received a New Investigator Research Award in 1994. Since then, he has gone on to mentor six Foundation research awardees, for which he received the Foundation’s Distinguished Mentor Award in 2016. He most recently served on the Foundation’s Public Education Council and as Chair of the Foundation’s Reproductive and Sexual Health Committee.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Burnett has received numerous awards and been recognized around the world for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the field of urology. Most recently, he was named Doctor of the Decade by the International Association of Top Professionals.

“Due in large part to my career-long interactions with its mission, I am keenly aware of the diverse and global activities of the Foundation,” said Dr. Burnett. “I look forward to working with my Board colleagues in supporting such a remarkable cause and advancing its mission worldwide through meaningful philanthropy, research and education.”

Dr. Burnett is an established expert in the clinical practice of prostate cancer, lower genitourinary tract malignancies and reconstruction, erectile dysfunction and penile abnormalities, as well as female urology. He is an active member of the AUA, International Society for Sexual Medicine, Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons, Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction and the Society of Black Academic Surgeons. He has served on numerous councils and committees within these organizations, as well as on various National Institute of Health (NIH) and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committees.
