What is urology? What does a urologist do? Why am I being sent to a urologist? What can I expect at my first urology visit?
These are all great questions to ask when first learning about urologic health. Your primary care doctor may have sent you to see a urologist to help with a health issue, or get testing done to address your symptoms. It is common to want to learn more about the doctors you are seeing and how they can help you find the answers you’re looking for.
In short, urology is a part of health care that deals with conditions and diseases of the male and female urinary tract. Urologists treat a wide range of conditions like cancer, kidney stones, infection, incontinence (loss of bladder control), sexual problems and pelvic floor problems.
